Ensuring Proper Electrical Protection for Thermalec 24kW Heaters

Guidance on fitting RCD and MCB for Thermalec 24kW heaters to ensure electrical safety.

To provide adequate earth leakage protection for Thermalec 24kW heaters, a Residual Current Device (RCD) must be installed. The RCD should be rated to handle the current drawn by the heater and any other equipment on the same supply. Overcurrent protection is also essential and must be provided by a Miniature Circuit Breaker (MCB). Due to the continuous high load, MCBs should be rated at least 20% higher than the heater's current rating. For example, a 24kW heater on a 230V single-phase supply requires an MCB rated at 100 Amps, so the MCB should be at least 120 Amps. Always consult the specific electrical supply table for correct ratings. Proper cable sizing and installation using cable glands are critical to ensure safety and minimize voltage drop. The plant room should be located close to the main electrical supply to reduce voltage drop effects.
